The City of Vancouver has officially appointed Katie Shifley as its next Chief Financial Officer following an extensive national search. Shifley, who has been serving in an interim capacity, will now take on the role permanently, overseeing the city's financial operations and long-term fiscal strategy.
City officials highlighted Shifley's deep experience in municipal finance and her familiarity with Vancouver's budget processes as key factors in her selection. During her interim tenure, she worked closely with department heads to streamline reporting and improve transparency in spending. Prior to stepping into the interim role, Shifley spent years managing the city's debt portfolio and capital planning.
In her new position, Shifley will be responsible for developing the annual budget, managing investments, and ensuring the city remains on solid financial footing amid rising infrastructure costs and shifting economic conditions. She replaces the previous CFO, who retired earlier this year.
Shifley holds a degree in accounting and is a certified public finance officer. She is expected to present her first full budget proposal to the city council in the coming months.
