DENVER, CO – The Colorado Senate voted today to approve the 2026 School Finance Act, a comprehensive funding bill aimed at strengthening public education across the state. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Chris Kolker, a Democrat from Centennial, represents a continued commitment to investing in Colorado’s schools, teachers, and students.
“As Chair of the Senate Education Committee, upholding our promise to Colorado students, teachers, and schools is my number one priority,” Kolker said in a statement following the vote. “During a time when educational resources are stretched thin, this bill ensures that our classrooms receive the funding they need to provide a quality learning environment for every child.”
The 2026 School Finance Act outlines the state’s funding formula for K-12 education, allocating resources to school districts based on student enrollment, local property tax revenues, and specific needs such as special education and English language learner programs. Supporters of the bill emphasized that it addresses long-standing funding gaps and provides stability for districts planning their budgets for the upcoming academic year.
The legislation now moves to the Colorado House of Representatives for further consideration. If passed, it will be sent to the governor’s desk for final approval before taking effect for the 2026 school year. Education advocates have praised the Senate’s action, noting that predictable and adequate funding is essential for maintaining high standards in public education.
