Health insurance giant Elevance Health is scheduled to release its second-quarter earnings report before the market opens on Wednesday. Investors are watching closely for signs of how the company is navigating rising medical costs and shifting enrollment numbers.
One of the main areas of focus will be the medical loss ratio, which measures the percentage of premiums spent on medical claims. In recent quarters, insurers have faced higher-than-expected costs as more people use healthcare services. Analysts will be looking to see if Elevance has been able to keep these costs under control compared to its competitors.
Another key metric is membership growth. Elevance operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in several states, and any changes in individual or employer-sponsored enrollment could affect revenue. The company's managed Medicaid business is also under scrutiny, as states continue to redetermine eligibility after the pandemic-era continuous coverage rule ended.
Revenue expectations are set around $43.5 billion for the quarter, with adjusted earnings per share projected near $10.45. Beyond the numbers, executives may provide updates on the company's cost-saving initiatives and its outlook for the rest of the year. Any commentary on the upcoming Medicare Advantage enrollment period could also move the stock.
