Michael Burry Calls Nvidia’s $500 Billion AI Financing Push a ‘Wall Street Stunt’: ‘Meet the New Boss…'

Investor Michael Burry, known for betting against the housing market before the 2008 crash, has taken a sharp swipe at Nvidia's latest financial move. Burry dismissed the chipmaker's effort to unlock more than 500 billion dollars for artificial intelligence infrastructure as a "Wall Street stunt." He suggested the plan leans on murky private credit deals rather than real economic substance.

The structure of the deal is what drew Burry's fire. Nvidia has signed agreements that let its biggest customers, like OpenAI, use their Nvidia chips as collateral to secure loans. Those loans then fund purchases of even more Nvidia hardware. In theory, this creates a loop where Nvidia sells more chips, customers get computing power, and lenders get a piece of the AI boom. But Burry sees it differently. He argues that the whole thing is built on paper values and that the private credit market, which is less regulated than traditional banking, is taking on risks that could blow up quietly.

Burry's comment, "Meet the new boss," seems aimed at the idea that this kind of financial engineering is just a fresh version of old Wall Street tricks. He has a history of calling out bubbles, and his skepticism here is notable because Nvidia has been the poster child for the AI rally. The company's stock has soared, and its earnings have been massive, but Burry is questioning whether the financing behind the growth is actually sound.

For now, Nvidia has not responded directly to Burry's remarks. The company continues to push forward with its AI infrastructure plans, and its customers are still buying. But Burry's warning adds a layer of doubt to a market that has been riding high on optimism. Whether this is a genuine red flag or just another contrarian take remains to be seen.
