RICHMOND, Va., September 02, 2026 - Genworth Financial, Inc. said today that its board has cleared the way for an extra $500 million in share repurchases, adding to the buyback program the company already had in place. The move gives the firm more room to return capital to stockholders without issuing new shares.
The additional authorization brings the total remaining capacity under the repurchase plan to a higher level, though the company did not specify exactly how much was left before this latest approval. Genworth noted that the timing and size of any buybacks will depend on market conditions, the price of the stock, and other factors such as cash needs for operations and debt obligations. The company may also choose to repurchase shares through open market transactions, privately negotiated deals, or other methods allowed under securities laws.
Genworth has been working to strengthen its balance sheet and manage its capital position carefully. The buyback expansion suggests management sees the current share price as a reasonable use of available funds. The program does not obligate the company to purchase any particular number of shares, and it can be suspended or discontinued at any time. The announcement came after the market closed, and shares of Genworth were unchanged in after-hours trading.
