Citizens Financial Group (CFG) Expands Brendan Coughlin’s Role To Oversee Commercial Banking

Citizens Financial Group has expanded the responsibilities of President Brendan Coughlin, giving him direct oversight of the Commercial Banking division. Under the new structure, Coughlin now leads Consumer Banking, Private Bank, Wealth, and Commercial Banking, in addition to steering the company's Reimagine the Bank initiative.

The move consolidates leadership across several major business lines as the bank focuses on modernization and operational transformation. By putting these units under one executive, Citizens aims to streamline decision-making and align its retail, wealth, and commercial strategies more closely.

Coughlin has been with Citizens since 2014 and previously led consumer banking before being named president. His expanded role signals the bank's push to break down silos and accelerate its digital and efficiency efforts.

Shares of Citizens Financial Group have performed well this year. The stock recently traded at around $72.39, with a year-to-date return of roughly 22% and a gain of more than 53% over the past twelve months. Investors have responded favorably to the bank's cost-cutting measures and revenue growth in its fee-based businesses.

The leadership change is effective immediately. Citizens has not indicated any further executive shifts at this time.
