A colossal $16 billion financing package for a massive Oracle data center is nearing completion, according to a recent report. The deal, secured by developer Related Digital, concludes months of negotiations with investors for the ambitious project.
The funding is earmarked for the construction of a sprawling data center campus in Saline Township, Michigan. This facility is specifically designed to host infrastructure for Oracle, which will, in turn, power applications for the leading artificial intelligence research company, OpenAI.
A significant portion of the financing, approximately $14 billion in debt, is being led by Bank of America. While initially planned as a traditional construction loan, this substantial debt portion is now expected to be structured as a bond offering. This shift highlights the project's scale and the capital markets' role in funding major digital infrastructure initiatives essential for advancing AI technologies and cloud computing services. The finalization of this financing marks a critical step forward for one of the industry's most significant current developments.
